[info]_ochre  just showed me this site, www.givesmehope.com/. Its like the FML website, but for the positive and happy moments that give you hope. So in the midst of so many negative happenings that we see in the news each day, with the most recent big news being the deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, this website is a refreshing change that indeed, gives me hope. :D

"During college, I worked at a coffee shop in New Orleans. The morning shift started at 6 am. A coworker lived off campus and waited for the streetcar ~5:30 am (before sunrise). One morning, she waited with a man for 10-15 mins. As the streetcar arrived, she asked if he was getting on, and he said "No, I was just making sure you were safe." GMH."

"Exactly 8 months ago my grandpa lost his battle with cancer. By the end he couldn't talk and wouldn't respond to any of us. A few moments before he took his last breath, he looked at my grandma and said clear as day "I love you". They were married 51 years. GMH!!"

"I rode the subway and ended up forgetting my purse and realizing it as the train sped away. I went to go talk to someone about it but no one could find it and I didn't have money to get back on the train so I started crying. That's when the janitor came over and handed me enough money to get home."

"I just read an amazing article about a little girl with cancer whose dying wish was to see Up! She was too sick to attend the theatre. Upon hearing this, Pixar sent over a staffer with gifts and a DVD. She couldn't open her eyes, so her mom described it. She passed away that night after seeing it. GMH."

"I was on the edge yesterday. I felt broken like no matter what we do we can not get ahead. I just set down on the floor and started crying. My two year old son came up to me, wiped the tears from my face and told me it would be ok. He smiled and kissed me. He gave me the strength to get back up because we may not have much, but we have love. GMH"

I'm getting a little weepy reading this entries...but reading them...GMH. (: I think we need a little hope in our lives. Rather than focusing on the negative moments, it feels better to take note of the positive ones, y/y?

TY, [info]_ochre , for showing me this. ILU. :D

Alright, I'm in a better mood since I'm done with my part of the marketing presention, and have completed my World Cinema readings for last week. (LOL YES LAST WEEK. I TOLD YOU I'M SLOW.) Now all I need to do for the rest of the week is to do my Spanish homework for tomorrow, finish reading the play 'Mankind' before my tutorial on Friday, and maybe try to complete at least ONE Shakespeare text by this week since I haven't even finish reading Richard II. ): OH and call up Adidas again since the person haven't call me back though he said he will. ): And if I'm not wrong I think I'm supposed to meet my marketing groupmates tomorrow but like...nobody confirmed anything? LOL.

**********

I've been craving for Spanish food, more specifically, paella, ever since [info]_ochre  mentioned that she went sometime this week. I keep thinking about paella, omg. LOL. JANESA, WE MUST GO BEFORE YOU GO BACK AUSSIE KAE.

**********

I realise I can't listen to DBSK's 'Kiss the Baby Sky' in public because Yoochun's random sentences at the start and somewhere in the middle make me feel like laughing whenever I hear it.

**********

I think I'm enjoying my classes now more than the horrible first two weeks of school. I still need to get used to one of my lecturer's way of conducting lecture...since he talks fast and has a freaking script, LOL. But okay, it was better this week already. And he uploaded his script! AHAHHA. And though I totally had no intention of taking a drama module and was quite !@#$%^&* when I found out that its assigned to us, I think I like that module now. LOL.

**********

We watched Nang Nak, a popular Thai film, yesterday. And found out that ADM IS SUCH A NICE PLACE. THE LIBRARY IS SO PRETTY. Oh and we got to watch the film on PLASMA TV. ON A SOFA/COUCH. My only gripe is that the sofa was so near to the tv that I went home with a headache, and it lasted till I went to sleep.

**********

Its been so super windy. Like, if I wear a hat out, I'm so sure it'll get blown away. If I wear a skirt, I think it will fly up. If I wear an unbuttoned cardigan, it will fly open unflatteringly. But of course, if I don't wear anything, I'll be damn cold. Yeah, its been so cold that when I'm washing up at night before I sleep, I will shiver and my teeth will start chattering from the cold wind. I don't think I've ever been so cold in SINGAPORE before??

**********

I actually can't wait for Chinese New Year. It'll be a short break, but still, its a welcomed break.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually glad that I was at Orchard tonight. I met up with Janesa just now to see Nat carol... Yes we are such great friends. *does the fist to heart action to Nat* HAHAHAA. Anyway, I said that I was glad because...it was nice to walk down Orchard Road and see people carolling, taking pictures, giving out stuff. Its like, wow, Christmas is really here. (: For years, I avoided Orchard Road like the plague whenever Christmas draws near because I don't like squeezing with a bunch of people. So even though I complained just now to Janesa about the throngs of shopping crowd and whatever people there, now I know why people still choose to go Orchard even when its damn crowded. Of course, I'm not saying that I'll happily go Orchard again tomorrow night or on Christmas itself, because...the crowd still gets to me and I'm afraid that I'll commit a crime in the heat of the moment... LOL. Maybe next year, nearing Christmas again. (:

Which reminds me. Christmas is in two days, and so far I've only written like, 4 cards? LOL. So I guess I'll pass the cards personally to those that I'll be seeing soon. Sorry, no snail mail this year for you people!

*****

This month saw me stepping into the cinema more regularly again! The Day The Earth Stood Still was alright, I suppose. But with so many sci-fi/aliens/reminder-about-our-environment sort of movies that...I don't know, this one doesn't particularly make a strong impression. It was not bad though, just...not impressive/memorable. Twilight was LOL. Especially when Edward Cullen looked like he wanted to puke after seeing Bella for the first time. I laughed so hard, omg. And their dialogue is actually quite funny as well. There was one line that was so cheesy that I'll probably remember it for life. Edward said to Bella, "You're like a drug to me. Like my own personal brand of heroine." AHAHAHA. Alright, I won't even talk about the characters because how the actors want to portray their character might be different and...I don't blame them if they're different from my own impressions. But it was definitely draggy at some parts. Like a taiwanese drama. LOL. And no, I didn't like it. I rather enjoyed Ip Man! (: I thought Donnie Yen did a good job. Of course, it would be better if they let the audience know more the Wing Chun moves. 'Cause it focuses more on the story and the Sino-Japanese war instead, which might have neglected the kungfu a bit. But a lot of action, so it was good enough. (: Now I can't wait to watch Australia. Don't know if I'll get to watch on Saturday.

*****

The holidays is just left with 1 week and a half. I haven't even done much. I saw more of XJ and the rest...that's good. I could wake up at whatever time I like...that's good too. But I keep feeling like I still have things left undone for my CCA, which is true, but it just feels like its never-ending. I'm not complaining. No, Kat, I'm really not. 'Cause I really want our event to work too. So I will try to do what I can for my part. But I am hoping that March will come sooner and I don't have to feel the constant need to be doing some work anymore. For now, I have to settle the police permit (girl, please let me know if my proposal is fine), get back to the lady in charge of our application at Tote Board and do the Adidas thing. And I should probably do the minutes of today's meeting by tomorrow.

But well! I'm telling myself that this will be all worth it. So yeah, Kat, you hang in there too. You're probably more tired than any of us. LOL.

*****

Note to self: I must enjoy myself next week.

You know that your fangirl-ing has reached an all-new high when...

YOU DREAM ABOUT THE SUBJECT OF YOUR FANGIRL-ING.

Yes I had this ridiculous dream last night.

I dreamt that I went to the movies with Changmin.

(I KNOW. LIKE WTH RIGHT. I DON'T EVEN LIKE HIM THAT MUCH. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING IN MY DREAM. JAEJOONG OR JUNSU WLD BE MORE LOGICAL. HMM MAYBE BECAUSE THE LAST VIDEO I SAW BEFORE I GO OFFLINE WAS CHANGMIN'S UFO REPLIES.)

Okay, so in my dream, we were conversing in English. (LOL.) He was being very nice and bought food for me. The cinema was empty. And then, just as I was eating, (yes in the cinema) he tells me that we can't be together. (BIG FAT MAJOR LOL HERE.) I don't know if I was supposed to like him in my dream? I can't remember what I was feeling in my dream. Guess I wasn't too affected then. HAHAHA.

Anyway, he patted me on the head and tells me not to be sad. And he told me that the reason we can't be together is because...

HE AND JAEJOONG HAVE DECIDED THAT THEY'RE VERY MUCH IN LOVE AND WOULD LIKE TO BE TOGETHER HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

AAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA.

TRULY WTF. I was laughing to myself after I woke up and thought about my dream.

Okay time to get back to my revision. (:

I forgot [info]_ochre passed me the movie, American Psycho sometime ago. So I finally watched it today. OMG I think its damn good can?! The more I think about it the better it seems. LOL. Everyone should watch it. (: Oh and I also finally watched The Chinese Odyssey 1 & 2. I think I like the first one better.

I can't wait to watch Ironman. Seems like this is a really good movie because so far everyone who watched it don't have anything bad to say about it. And I really want to watch A Clockwork Orange. I'm hoping for a movie marathon, but Nat and I can't think of anybody's house to go. It's just different when you watch movies with other people! Sigh, where's Janesa when we need her?! HAHAHA. Just kidding kae, Janesa. (:

I'm still looking out for a job. Anybody got any lobangs can tell me okay! I think if I continue slacking I'll be feeling lazy and useless. Oh and speaking of jobs, I got myself a grammar book to brush up on my grammar! (: As in, the technicalities. So that I know the difference between past perfect tense and past participle tense. Haha. Then at least I can explain more clearly because most of the time, grammar this sort of thing is all based on my feeling. LOL. I mean, having read for so many years you'll just know how your tense is supposed to be like right? But its like not very helpful to tell my tuition kid that I based everything on feeling. Seeing how he doesn't even read. /: Ah I can be so hardworking sometimes that I surprise even myself. -pats myself on the back- LOL.

By the way, can somebody tell me what's the deal about Cecelia Ahern?? I read one of her books called A Place Called Here sometime ago, and I didn't feel much for it. And since many people raved about her other book, P.S I Love You (yes she's secretly in love with me), I decided to give her books another try by reading that. Frankly, I didn't feel much for it too. I guess the content and all that was well thought out...but I didn't like her writing style. Like, it didn't flow like it should. It felt quite unnatural to me. The story didn't just unfold, if you get what I mean. The way she told the story reminds me of some blogs that I've seen that reports basically everything in their life, right down to the very last detail and order. Sort of like, 'she did this and that...she went here..and this happened..blahblahblah'. It might be just me though, but it seriously pales in comparison to the short stories by Angela Carter that I'm reading at the same time. Maybe its unfair to compare 'cause they're so different. Hahaha. So just pardon the critic in me. I need some new books to read. Nadifa offered to lend me some books, but I don't know when we can meet. ): So, recommendations, please! Or else I can take hours just to browse at bookstores.

I'm still a little sore that The Hypochondriac was sold out. I was so interested when I saw it in 8days lah. Its like, totally sold out, every single day. Tskkk. This shows that we should act fast when it comes to getting tickets.

But Dominique getting eliminated from ANTM, FINALLY, perks up my night. Yay. Couldn't stand her manliness any longer. LOL at Miss J's "But that's why its called Covergirl...it covers up the man in you." in reply to Nigel's worry that Dominique cannot handle thick make-up on her face due to her manly features.

You might have realised by now, whenever I can't think of a subject I'll put 'Random #'. LOL. Okay, just thought you might want to know. /:

Just now, I saw a girl whose pants was pulled down and shirt flipped up, blowing kisses at everyone who passed by her. Like every guy's dream scenario right!

Except that she was a small kid. In the toilet. 'Cause the maid or whoever that is was...I don't know...helping her wear diapers?? I didn't see properly. LOL. I think its so cute that she was totally oblivious to the fact that she was not dressed properly and yet she still smiled and blew kisses at me happily when I walked past to go into the toilet cubicle. So innocent. Its almost like Eve before she bit into that forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge...and our adulthood resembling the consequences..... Okay okay I'll stop, strange analogy. LOL.

First session of tuition went fine! I think. Though I found it a little difficult to explain grammar. I think I need to revise a bit. Hahaha. I am determined to improve that boy's English.

And I've been listening to the so-called "Ken's song" from Proposal Daisakusen. Yes, I found the song! I love it. This is the translated lyrics, courtesy of DramaWiki, LOL.

chiisana koi no uta )

I have no idea what's the translated title of the song though. -.- HAHAHA.

On a side note, actually, I have no idea why I love that drama. I just really enjoyed it. Maybe its the dialogue, maybe its the touching scenes. Maybe its the strong friendship, maybe its the whole premise of it. Maybe its Ken's "Hallelujah Chance!", maybe its Yamashita Tomohisa's good looks. Most likely its everything. LOL. But I can't exactly pinpoint exactly what is it that I really like.

Anyway, now, thanks to [info]enacting, I have a new song on repeat! (: Yay.

EXAMS ARE OVER!! YAY!

This is not to spite all those who haven't finish their exams, but I am genuinely glad that I've finished mine. It was a nightmare, to be honest.
And the rest of the papers...

22nd April, Tuesday- HL205 Victorian Literature and Culture
I guess this paper was okaaaay too. Meaning, I should be able to pass. Hahaha. Meaning also, this was seriously an alright paper as compared to the horrible nightmare that is HL103. But the questions I chose were like, common questions that many people did. I hope my essays don't pale in comparison. *crosses fingers*

23rd April, Wednesday- HL211 Representations of Asia: Film and Fiction
At first, I thought the paper was alright too. I mean, I watched both films that I chose to do on- Shanghai Knights and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. But after getting back my research essay paper, I'm starting to think maybe the paper wasn't as okay as I thought. 'Cause I got the first B of the semester. ): Fine, I'm not exactly getting As (which is saddening) but at least it was a string of B pluses. They beat my B anytime. So..yeah, guess my essays would be quite general/shallow as compared to other people's. Sigh. And somemore I wrote so little for Shanghai Knights. As it was my second essay, I was like...bored already. LOL. I kept glancing at the clock and counting down to the minutes when I'll be free. Tsk.

I am really dreading my results this time, more so than last semester. So much for saying I'll study harder this semester. Hahaha. Guess I shouldn't have said such stuff. Let's just take it one step at a time now. I'll at least try to be more consistent in my readings next semester. And hope for useful tutorials. Hahaha. 'Cause I realise that I had an easier time with Victorian Lit because I rmbred stuff from my tutorials. Yay for my tutor! (:  And needless to say, the paper that was my shittiest was the one that I had really left readings to the last minute. So yes, even if I fail, I know I deserve it. *slaps self*

On a happier note, I finally managed to find S1 Episode 14 of Gossip Girl! LOL I'm such a tv addict. And such a fail at finding things on the internet. Oh well. At least there's [info]_ochre to go to for all tech problems. Hahaha! Accompanied with stuff like, "NOOB." and "Once a noob, always a noob." Okay random.

We went to remove some stuff from hall today after lunch. Preparing to move out from hall. I'm actually quite happy about it. No more worrying whether my things are in hall or at home! And no more lugging stuff back and forth! No more sharing toilets! *big smile*

But I will miss the freedom that I had when I was in hall. The late night movies with Nat the Roomie. The convenience of it when I want to go for lessons or crash after lessons. I guess everything does has its pros and cons. And one more thing, despite being a resident of Hall 13, I will miss Hall 14/15's Japanese food. Very much.

Anyway, many thanks to Nat for being a great Roomie for these past few months. Because I'm generally a noob at many things, Nat has been very nice to tolerate my nonsense and took good care of me. Hahaha. So yup, THANKS NAT PANG. (:

ALL THE BEST TO THOSE WHO STILL HAVE PAPERS!

Oh, before I forget, its my bi-annual job hunt. Happens whenever I have holidays. Whoever got tuition jobs to recommend, TELL ME PLEASE THANKS I WILL LOVE YOU MORRREEE. HAHAHA.

Something else random too. I was genuinely surprised, shocked, appalled, ... (add in your own suitable adjective) because I found out some people actually don't know who is Kenny Sia?! OMG. I told one of them, that's like saying you don't know what is...Wikipedia...? LOL. At least they know Xiaxue. Or I'm really going into shock (no, not the medical condition) right this minute.

YAY I have completed my essay! Like Nat, I decided to restart on my essay at 10 plus last night (when I was already at 1000 words plus). And I slept at 3 plus in the morning. So, I wanted to go to HL205 lecture today at 11.30am...but I woke up at 10am, the time when I'm supposed to leave my house. (Yeah I went home yesterday.) I decided to finish up my essay before leaving my house at 1pm for HW111 tutorial. And yes, its done! (: It seems kind of shallow though, I really hope I don't get a C for this last minute work.

I watched The Leap Years just now! Hmmm. It wasn't fantastic shit or anything like that. But Wong Li-Lin is damn pretty, and that Shutter guy is damn cute. LOL, forgive me, I can never remember his name. So anyway, I thought it was quite an average movie, even though the idea of 29th Feb's Irish tradition was quite cool. The dialogue wasn't as cheesy as I thought. I guess I wasn't expecting much from the movie after reading the book, so I wasn't disappointed too. (: Its something to watch on cheap movie days! And you know what, I actually like the movie better than the book. Probably because too much lovey-dovey stuff goes on in the book, which doesn't really appeal to me.

And, I saw this on Facebook just now. I THOUGHT IT WAS DAMN FUNNY. I'm sorry, Cher, I just have to post this. HAHAHA. Okay, actually I think if you know Cher, then this will be funny. I was laughing like shit to myself in hall. This is one of the applications in Facebook, the 10-second interview thing.

Disclaimer: This is not to make fun of Cher. I am just very amused by her answers. I'm sure Cher has a good enough sense of humour to know that I'm just tickled. (:

On Cher's page...

What celebrity do people say you look like?
Cher's response: hurrrrr..nobody. only the shark in shark's tale. and i don't think he is a celebrity.
My response: HAHAHAHA. And the shark in Finding Nemo! I think he's called Bruce. Isn't he more famous than the one in Shark Tale? I mean, at least we know his name. LOL.

How long have you spent answering these questions so far?
Cher's response: 30 minutes! I thought it would automatically stop in 10 seconds?
My response: LOL what a typical Cher thought. Haha!

What does the tooth fairy do with all these teeth? (omg so random.)
Cher's response: she builds a tooth palace. and she skips in it happily everyday. :D
My response: Only Cher can think of such stuff. Hahaha. So random lor.

Bury me with my...
Cher's response: PJs..I always wanted to wear some.
My response: LOL! poor girl. we'll get you some on your birthday okay.

Make up a fact about penguins right now.
Cher's response: penguins love rainbows, so all their lives they're just trying to get out of north pole or south pole if they're there. but they always die before they find the rainbow. haha. tragic.
My response: I seriously LOL-ed at this.

Have you ever been on TV?
Cher's response: errrrrrrr....sort of? the camera swooped past me when i was adjusting my specs. how unglam. but you probably didn't see it. thankfully.

When the aliens arrive, I hope they bring...
Cher's response: happiness? errrrrr..sounds wrong. haha.
My response: LOL wtf. I'm guessing she's thinking of E.T when she replied that.

What's the strangest question you've been asked in a job interview?
Cher's response: Does anyone in your family have any medical conditions?
My response: I can so totally imagine Cher's expression. I hope she replied "oh yeah that's me!" *displays signs of madness*

I feel naked without my...
Cher's response: clothes?
My response: HAHAHA. All hail the Queen of Obvious!

Seriously, she's like such a good interviewee. So interesting and fun to read. If I ever need to interview someone, I will surely find her. Hahaha!

Hahaha I'm just kidding. There's no way something so cute could be mine. I am sorry to be so shameless to claim it as mine. LOL. This cute little fella here belongs to my friend. (: You can tell that he has inherited good looks from his parents. (Okay okay, I guess all newborns look alike, but still, he is still cuter than some other babies that I've seen!)  He was born on the 3rd of March 2008,  weighing 3.33kg. So coincidental right! This is quite random, but anyway, I found these stuff while researching for a school project.

The myths of a few islands around Singapore! Hahaha. I think all of us have heard of these before, in primary school? But it was interesting reading about it again, sort of like refreshing my memory. (:

KUSU ISLAND
There was once a Chinese fisherman who lived on the island of Singapura. His family was poor so he had to go out to sea everyday to catch fish to sell. One day, although there was a thunderstorm, he insisted on going out to sea, against his wife's advice.
(Tsk tsk. I guess all stories must start with disobeying/not listening to loved ones' advice)

The choppy waters and heavy rain made it very difficult to fish. The fisherman's little boat swayed vigorously from side to side. As he was about to throw his net into the sea, a huge wave rocked his boat, causing him to lose his balance and fall into the sea. "God, please help me!" he screamed in the water (How the hell do you scream in the water??), "Who is going to take care of my wife and children?" (Hmm. Drama much?)

Just when the fisherman was about to give up, a large turtle swam slowly towards him. It was the biggest turtle he had ever seen! To his surprise, the turtle signalled to him to climb onto its back and carried him safely to a nearby island.

The Chinese fisherman soon made the island his home. He was able to live quite well, as fruits grew abundantly on the island. (Ehh what happened to the 'wife and children' sia??!!)

One stormy day, while the fisherman was resting, he heard a loud cry. "Help! Help! I am drowning!" a man cried. Guess what the fisherman saw? The same turtle that helped him was carrying a Malay fisherman to the island!

The two men soon became good friends. (Ah well. It'll be quite sad if they were enemies when they're the only 2 people on the island right?) They spent their time hunting for animals and fruits. (Exciting hobby.)

To thank the turtle for saving their lives, the two men built a Chinese temple, a Malay shrine and a huge turtle sculpture, all of which can still be found on Kusu Island, which is also known as Turtle Island. (Chinese temple and Malay shrine only?? Selfish ah they all. Only think for themselves. What about Christians and Hindus who might want to visit too?)

Today, during the ninth month of the lunar calendar (usually October in the calendar we use now), many Chinese go to Kusu Island to pray to Tua Pek Kong, the deity of prosperity, at the Chinese temple.

Oops. Couldn't resist adding in my own comments.

SISTERS' ISLAND
A long time ago lived a pair of beautiful sisters, Minah & Lina, who shared a bond so strong that nothing can separate them. But one day, the notorious chief of the Orang Laut met and fell in love with Lina. Despite the sisters' pleas, the chief took her away and forced her into the sampan. Just then, the sky turned dark and a storm broke out. As Minah made a final attempt to save her sister from leaving the jetty, a large wave came and engulfed her. On seeing this, Lina freed herself from her captors and jumped into the sea to join Minah.

The storm subsided but nowhere can the sisters be found. Instead, two islands emerged from where they had drowned. Called Subar Laut (3.9 ha) & Subar Darat (1.7ha), the two small islands are now known as Sisters' Islands . It was said that every year on that very day when the sisters turned into islands, there will always be storm and rain.

PULAU HANTU
There were once two great warriors locked in a fierce battle at sea. Many people died and the blue seas slowly became polluted with human blood, upsetting the Jinns at the bottom of the ocean. In anger, one powerful Jinn created a whirlpool and sucked the 2 warriors into the deep sea to drown them. Not deterred, they continued their battle. (Wah. They so pro can fight in water?!) Suddenly, the Jinn sprayed water on one of them (LOL!), and the other warrior seeing his opponent blinded, thrusted his sword into his abdomen. (Shit he is so 贱, someone should smack him.) At the same time, the wounded warrior forced his sword into the other man. (This guy should be the real pro. He's wounded yet he can stab the other guy! This makes the uninjured guy seem so weak. Get killed by a wounded person. Sigh.) Both collapsed and died.

The gods felt it was wrong for the sea spirits to interfere in human affairs, thus, the Jinn transformed the two warriors into islets so that their spirits can continue to live on them. As one of the warriors was smaller than the other
(Seems kinda ego-bruising to me. The islands are named according to their size? /:), his islet was known as "Pulau Hantu Kecil" while the bigger one was called "Pulau Hantu Besar".

Remember these myths now?? (: I didn't know about the Pulau Hantu one though. But the Kusu Island's myth is classic, man. Looks like the turtles in the past were a lot smarter and more useful than turtles now.
