I. NEED. A. DRAMA. TO. WATCH.

SERIOUSLY.

Ever since Boys Before Flowers ended, I haven't watched a single drama. This is a brand new record. What happened to watching all the taiwanese dramas?? Even the shitty ones?! I guess going into a whole new fandom (and thus abandoning the previous one, whoops) does change things. LOL.

I watched a few movies on my laptop, but I agree with Janesa, it feels better to have a drama to watch 'cause it doesn't end so quickly... If you get what she means. LOL. So far, from what I can recall, I watched I'm a Cyborg But that's Okay (which I really really like, but wasn't one of Park Chan-wook's best works), Chaser (IT WAS AWESOME. <3 ), Naked Kitchen (a beautiful...love story? It was a little disappointing though. IDK if I was expecting too much.) ... Okay and what else. OH I WATCHED ATTACK OF THE PIN-UP BOYS. IT WAS JUST...LOL. SUJU, ILU. I also watched Cyborg She. Don't judge please. I was itching for another movie about cyborgs and that was the only one I know of. HAHAHA. It was...erm, let's just say, its no loss if you don't watch it. (: The main female lead, the cyborg, IS DARN PRETTY THOUGH. I also watched Little Miss Sunshine (ITS SUCH A FEEL GOOD FILM. LOVED IT.) and re-watched Love Actually. Okay, I can't remember what else I watched online. ): Age is catching up with me.

I NEED A DRAMA. RECOMMENDATIONS, PLEASE.

LOL speaking of movies, I would say the movie marathon at the class chalet last week was one of the most successful movie marathons I've ever had. I mean, everyone was awake and watching?! HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN. Its such a rare occurance. Maybe I should buy lottery tomorrow. Usually when we have stayovers or chalets, either 1) everyone starts off watching, but one by one loses interest and either fall asleep or go off to do something else or 2) only one or two are REALLY watching, the rest are just bored. even from the start, yes. LOL WE ACTUALLY WATCHED 3 MOVIES: Marley & Me, Bride Wars and Mad About English. I can't believe we watched the first two 'cause I know I didn't even want to watch them when they showed at the theaters. LOL. But they're good flicks to watch at stayovers though Marley & Me felt like 3 hours omg. Anyway, YAY US. (:

I'm finally going to watch Transformers tomorrow. When the whole world has already watched it.

And I can't wait for this.

...It looks like its going to be damn awesome. Expelliarmus!

Had to post this part of the movie up after catching the second half of it on tv on Saturday night.

I think this is one of my favourite parts in 如果.爱, Perhaps Love. (The part between 周迅 and Takeshi Kaneshiro, not so much the part with Jacky Cheung, LOL. I couldn't find a video with just that part in the snow.) And my favourite song in this movie too. I remember tearing at that part when I watched it for the first time. Don't know why it felt touching to me, it just was.

And I guess I don't have to tell you that I love this movie. LOL.

Okay, I should probably check my mail now. SIGHHHHHH.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually glad that I was at Orchard tonight. I met up with Janesa just now to see Nat carol... Yes we are such great friends. *does the fist to heart action to Nat* HAHAHAA. Anyway, I said that I was glad because...it was nice to walk down Orchard Road and see people carolling, taking pictures, giving out stuff. Its like, wow, Christmas is really here. (: For years, I avoided Orchard Road like the plague whenever Christmas draws near because I don't like squeezing with a bunch of people. So even though I complained just now to Janesa about the throngs of shopping crowd and whatever people there, now I know why people still choose to go Orchard even when its damn crowded. Of course, I'm not saying that I'll happily go Orchard again tomorrow night or on Christmas itself, because...the crowd still gets to me and I'm afraid that I'll commit a crime in the heat of the moment... LOL. Maybe next year, nearing Christmas again. (:

Which reminds me. Christmas is in two days, and so far I've only written like, 4 cards? LOL. So I guess I'll pass the cards personally to those that I'll be seeing soon. Sorry, no snail mail this year for you people!

*****

This month saw me stepping into the cinema more regularly again! The Day The Earth Stood Still was alright, I suppose. But with so many sci-fi/aliens/reminder-about-our-environment sort of movies that...I don't know, this one doesn't particularly make a strong impression. It was not bad though, just...not impressive/memorable. Twilight was LOL. Especially when Edward Cullen looked like he wanted to puke after seeing Bella for the first time. I laughed so hard, omg. And their dialogue is actually quite funny as well. There was one line that was so cheesy that I'll probably remember it for life. Edward said to Bella, "You're like a drug to me. Like my own personal brand of heroine." AHAHAHA. Alright, I won't even talk about the characters because how the actors want to portray their character might be different and...I don't blame them if they're different from my own impressions. But it was definitely draggy at some parts. Like a taiwanese drama. LOL. And no, I didn't like it. I rather enjoyed Ip Man! (: I thought Donnie Yen did a good job. Of course, it would be better if they let the audience know more the Wing Chun moves. 'Cause it focuses more on the story and the Sino-Japanese war instead, which might have neglected the kungfu a bit. But a lot of action, so it was good enough. (: Now I can't wait to watch Australia. Don't know if I'll get to watch on Saturday.

*****

The holidays is just left with 1 week and a half. I haven't even done much. I saw more of XJ and the rest...that's good. I could wake up at whatever time I like...that's good too. But I keep feeling like I still have things left undone for my CCA, which is true, but it just feels like its never-ending. I'm not complaining. No, Kat, I'm really not. 'Cause I really want our event to work too. So I will try to do what I can for my part. But I am hoping that March will come sooner and I don't have to feel the constant need to be doing some work anymore. For now, I have to settle the police permit (girl, please let me know if my proposal is fine), get back to the lady in charge of our application at Tote Board and do the Adidas thing. And I should probably do the minutes of today's meeting by tomorrow.

But well! I'm telling myself that this will be all worth it. So yeah, Kat, you hang in there too. You're probably more tired than any of us. LOL.

*****

Note to self: I must enjoy myself next week.

I realised that I haven't blog about a single movie for a long, long time. I just checked, and my last post mentioning movies was on 4bia?! LOL. That's in like, September. Maybe because the last few movies that I've seen all pretty much disappointed, like The Coffin, Mama Mia!, oh and the 20th Century Boys after I found out that it was one part of a trilogy or something. Hahaha. The Sky Crawlers was not bad, but a little too slow-moving (guess it is named 'The Sky Crawlers' for a reason) at some parts that I couldn't stop yawning. LOL.

So you can't blame me for wanting to rave about this movie that I actually really enjoyed watching just now.

Yes, 海角七号.

Let me say this first. I do not think that this is some mind-blowing shit or the best movie ever or whatever.

But. There must be a reason why this film has become the best-selling film in the entire Taiwan history. (Okay I forgot where I read that from, but I think it was in the news somewhere. You can correct me if I misunderstood. Yes I give you permission. Hahaha.)

The movie plot is a little cliched, a typical love story. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't watched it yet by posting the entire plot summary here, so I would just say that I think the subplot and the main plot were interwoven nicely. Such that even though the subplot happened in the past, you can still relate it to the present day situation (which is the main plot) and realise that everything ties in perfectly. This is not to say that the plot is without flaw, because there are a few loose ends here and there. The relationship between the leads,  范逸臣 and Chie Tanaka was not explained properly either. Its like, at first they hate each other, and then all of a sudden, without much development between the both of them, the girl suddenly seem so affected by the guy and suddenly she is at his house, and suddenly they were kissing and everything?? It was a bit WTF, to be honest. Hahaha. And then there was this other part near the end where it was kind of random and unexplained? Not very nice to leave the audience hanging. ):

But I think that the plot thing is my only gripe, because this movie is really so commercial that I love it. So commerical, it touched my heart. It was very real and very sincere, and that's the best thing about this movie. I think if I was Taiwanese, I would be proud of being a Taiwanese after watching it. The director did not just show the positive side of Taiwan, but even then, he did it in such a way that even the negative aspects seem endearing. I like the fact that this is not about the city Taiwan, aka Taipei, but rather the country Taiwan, with everybody knowing each other and all. The characters were all well-developed. Like, they all had their own background stories. (: Surprisingly, Van Fan acted better than I thought he would. Some emotions could have been acted out better, but trust me, its already not bad. Hahaha. Maybe he should stick to acting instead of singing. /: But I would say that the real show-stealers were the other characters in the so-called band that they were putting together. Not sure if everyone would get the Taiwanese type of humour, but if you do, omg this movie is damn funny please. (though it seems like only me and my friend were laughing alot in the theater. ): ) So at the end you'll really care for the characters, maybe not much for Van Fan's.

I love the cinematography, especially during the subplot, and the soundtrack! OMG I am so downloading getting the soundtrack. Pop music at its best too. LOL. I only managed to find one of the songs on imeem. Listen okay! The narration part was because of the subplot. There, its revealed. The subplot is about some unsent letters from a Japanese man to a local girl. But to know the entire story, you should watch it. Hahaha. I actually felt like tearing at some parts 'cause of the combination of the soundtrack, cinematography and the story. But before I start tearing, some stupid funny thing will happen. LOL. So yeah, don't worry, you won't cry in the end! Hahaha.

To sum up this movie: Commerical at its best. (This is a compliment. I am saying that this is how a commerical film should be. Cliched, but not making the audience cringe, rather, letting the audience enjoy the cliches. Commercial, relatable, but not without depth. A feel-good film. Yay.)

Edit: Look I found another one! This is the one where he was supposedly composing. (in the movie, of course. hahaha. shit i'm damn mean to Van Fan. okay, not like he gives a shit too.) And the part where I was almost tearing 'cause he composed it (in the movie) inspired by those letters (which were well-written and very sad ala The Notebook style), and then later on he was like sort of singing to the female lead. (you can hear a bit of the dialogue at the end, LOL)

Okay, totally besides the point, but the imeem page of the person who uploaded this song had Jae Joong as her header! LOL.

I really want to watch 4Bia. It's a combination of 4 horror stories, and two of the directors did Shutter! Those who didn't catch Shutter, you're missing out 'cause it was damn scary. And for those who had been living in a cave and don't really know about 4Bia... Here's the information for you, courtesy of the friendly Wikipedia!

the 4 stories )

And while looking for suitable timings at the GV website, I came across a few reviews... (Note: Perhaps you want to ignore the grammar mistakes. LOL.)

taken from GV )

Now I'm really hyped up for this. But VERY SCARED too. Exciting shit. (:

*Yeah, I know I should be reading my texts instead of copy-and-pasting about such stuff. Hahaha.

A little update since school just started today. (:

Well let's see, I certainly rested well enough for the start of school today! LOL. Since I quitted my job in June. Met up with people whom I should meet up. Slept for as much as I wanted. Went online for as long as I wanted. Pretty much doing what I want since I was so free. Haha. My last weekend before the new semester starts was....not too great, I would say. I was actually looking forward to the NDP preview that XJ had asked me and Cher along. But due to unforseen circumstances, we had to forgo the preview. ): QUITE SAD. 一场欢喜一场空. Okay maybe not so serious, LOL, but I was really looking forward to it.

First lecture today was interesting. Though it's quite difficult to pay full attention for 2 hours (okay okay, 1 and a half today) without a short break. Especially when Nat keeps nodding off beside me. I think the sleepiness is contagious and I had to try to fight it. I succeeded in fighting it today though. (: Hahaha. But then again, it might be because it was only 1 and a half hrs today. Add/drop period just started. I really need to get that Spanish module on Tuesday/Thursday to make my time table...normal. LOL.

Red Cliff today with Nat! It was another exciting movie! My poor heart can't take it any longer. LOL. And Zhuge Liang is so smart! I realised how little I know about China's history. So I read it up a bit on Wikipedia (though I'm not sure how accurate it is but guess I just read for the rough idea). I don't really see what's the big deal about the movie not following historical documentation EXACTLY. Since it's a movie...I mean, it's also got to be audience-friendly right? (In order to be box-office-friendly? Haha.) So I don't see it as a crime for them to hype up the plot and figures to make things more exciting. And sure, perhaps the characters are like, not what everyone have in mind. (I mean those who actually know those historical characters and what they're supposed to be like.) But the actors and actresses are people too. I'm sure they themselves have the characters in their mind and in my opinion, how they want to portray their characters should be up to them. Though difference in character portrayal is one thing, lousy acting is another. Hahahaa. I can't wait for the second part!

Okay, I'm quite lazy to blog nowadays. Seems like when I have things to say, I end up not knowing where to start.

I realised that many people around me aren't fans of Jack Neo's movies. To be honest, I'm not a very big fan of his movies too. Because like many of you, I do agree that his movies seem like they won't make much difference on the tv screen at home. However, I like his movies for the mere fact that he brings up issues close to our heart and inject humour into them. They are issues that we complain so much about, yet when we realise nothing can be done, we'll just keep quiet until another issue arises that we can complain about, and the cycle goes on. I thought that was aptly mentioned in his new movie, Money No Enough 2/钱不够用2.

But I just watched The Dark Knight today.

THE JOKER IS SERIOUSLY DARN CREEPY.

Some people were laughing really hard in the theater at some of his dialogue, but I just thought it was quite disturbing. Now I understand what's the hype about. Well, despite the creeps, I FEEL LIKE WATCHING IT AGAIN LOL.

After the movie I was like in a daze because I kept thinking about the movie. (But I swear I was listening during the meeting, Miss Chairperson!) Haha. So exciting! I thought I was going to have a heart attack from all the action and the suspense. (Okay I exaggerate but you know what I mean.) It didn't even feel like 2 and a half hours! (:

A short post before I sleep! I think today was quite enjoyable. (: Met up with JS and I had fun just talking and shopping around with her. Oh and we caught Made of Honour! A SUPER DUPER CLICHE LOVE STORY, but it was a sweet and feel-good movie nonetheless. I wouldn't say it was a LOL! kind of romantic comedy, but you'll just feel happy and smiley after watching it. A very couple-ish show lah. Hahaha. Patrick Dempsey is quite charming though. (: And the female lead (can't rmbr her name) is pretty! I usually don't expect much from romantic comedies, but this turned out to be not bad. One of the few romantic comedies that I really enjoyed. It reminded me so much of Proposal Daisakusen though. LOL. And also of this other movie that had some guy in love with the bride too. But I can't remember what movie was it. Tskkkk.

And this tops everything I've been doing these past few weeks. I met my sister, my cousin and his girlf for prata supper and WE PLAYED MONOPOLY AT THE COFFEE SHOP. That idiot (my cousin) actually brought monopoly to a kopitiam. The guy who served us prata looked at us strangely as if he thinks that we'll pay with the monopoly money later. LOL. Despite playing a game that I last played in primary school (and trust me, I TOTALLY forgot how to play monopoly), it was actually kind of fun. It would have been more fun with more people, but oh well, we got pang seh-ed, so too bad for us. Hahaha. As you can see, I'm trying to make that somebody feel guilty here. *bright smiley face*

I'm slightly cranky due to some sudden cancellation of plans tomorrow. I don't like it when I had to swap my plans around like mad and in the end nothing work out. First was dinner with XJ and the rest. Angela said she can't come out as often as last time so I guess its a cue for me to not ask her out unless its a special occasion. Juliana then said she can't make it (I can't remember what reason was it this time round, there are so many that I can't even keep track). Followed by XJ and Serene 'cause they're sick. Sorry if I sound bitter, I know that you girls really cannot help it. (: Just a bit annoyed when plans fall through. Especially when its one text message after another saying that they can't make it. Supper with Nat and a few others was cancelled too. Erm okay, maybe it can't be called cancelled, because we didn't even confirm in the first place. LOL. Anyway, Belle said we could go ahead, but I think all of us rather wait till everyone can make it right??

Perks of the day only include lunch with Shu Lian followed by Ironman. Ironman was DAMN GOOD can?! I super love the effects, I think I wah-ed and wow-ed like a million times. I'm surprised Shu Lian didn't knock me out in the middle of the movie. But maybe it's because she was too engrossed also. Just the right amount of humour, and I think the storyline was realistic. (As compared to other superhero sort of movies.) The male lead acted well! (: I quite like the political aspect of this movie too. Erm, actually I'm not sure if there's one, but it felt political to me? But really, the effects are just... are just... -imitates McGriddles advertisement- LOL. Everyone please catch it. The movie ticket was so worth it. Must watch this on the big screen! Don't watch it in lousy quality by downloading it or something. Tsk. Hahaha.
