XIAO LONG BAOS + DIM SUM = LOVE.
Last week was an overdose of Chinese food. Okay, maybe not the entire week. But 2 days in a row is ENOUGH. I mean, a BUFFET with steamboat on Thursday, plus dim sum on Friday? I will avoid Chinese food this week, thanks.

Crystal Jade buffet at Holland V. THIS MEANS ENDLESS XIAO LONG BAOs IF YOU WANT. :D :D

LOL I LOOK LIKE DEATH HERE. Just look at how puffy my eyes are, they look so small now. All the late nights omg. I need school to come around faster so that my bedtime can be slightly more normal.

LMAO I feel the need to do some public shaming here. 'Cause it was hilarious. THIS CHER. She looks so happy with her xiao long baos here right? So like, we each got one order for ourselves because that would mean 5 xiao long baos for each of us already. This girl, she insisted on getting another one for herself because she feels it would be a pity if we didn't eat MORE xiao long baos since its a buffet. TYPICAL SINGAPOREAN MENTALITY. HAHAHAHA. In the end, she was so stuffed with other food that she felt like dying with her many many xiao long baos and I had to help her to eat one xiao long bao. LOL.

On a separate note, the service was REALLY BAD the night that we went. I can see that everyone's busy, and we would totally understand if you need to take a longer time to serve us. I mean, we're not some bitches who can't wait. But HEY THERE IS NO NEED FOR RUDENESS AND LACK OF COURTESY. It was a bit of downer, especially when we just want to mind our business and eat our damn food. The waitresses were basically being rude and curt with their replies AND I COULD SEE NO FORM OF SERVICE AT ALL.

By service, I do not mean just plopping our orders on the table, NOT TELLING US when drinks are unavailable and basically trying to force another drink down our throats (which we did not order). setting your hot water flask down ON MY PLATE (the plate that i'm going to put food on in a while, miss) so that you can get a better grip (damn, can't you do it on the table? some hygiene wld be nice please), and I can quote a million other incidents in that ONE night, but I shall stop 'cause this is getting too long. LOL. I know service takes two hands to clap, and if we're unpleasant little bitches, I guess it would be difficult to be nice when serving us. But we were really trying to be nice about it (LOL, my friend couldn't control her temper though. Well, besides her then.)

Being extremely busy is not an excuse to be rude and compromise on your service standards. I'm not asking for quality service here, but if you're at least a nice person, it will naturally show in your service. NOW IDK WHAT TO THINK OF THOSE WAITRESSES WHO SERVED US AT HOLLAND V'S CRYSTAL JADE. Well, except for one. She was like the nicest among all those who served us. I ask that she be made the employee of the month now. No, make that employee of the year.

Dim Joy with [info]konnaye  ! :D

The custard buns and honey charsiew buns were a little disappointing this time round, they weren't as soft as I remembered them to be when I went there for the first time with [info]_ochre . ): But, it was still good overall!

THE EGG TARTS WERE TO DIE FOR. LIKE, THEY SERIOUSLY JUST MELT IN YOUR MOUTH. AND THE CRUSTS WERE JUST NICE; SOFT AND CRISPY AT THE SAME TIME. NAT, THEY WERE EVEN BETTER THAN THOSE WE ATE WHEN WE WENT THE LAST TIME. <3 <3

SEE HOW MUCH WE LOVE OUR EGG TARTS?!

We went to Dim Joy on a Friday night, and it was surprisingly empty. Guess everyone's at pubs or something since its a Friday. It was nice being one of the few in the restaurant, except that we should have probably sat further away from the wait staff 'cause it was kinda awkward with them standing so close and watching us eat. LOL. That said, I love the service that Dim Joy provides. The waiters and waitresses are really attentive (probably also due to the fact that there were few people, but the last time Nat and I went, they gave good service too), and are all REALLY NICE PEOPLE. :D :D I would go back for their egg tarts (best I've eaten, actually), custard buns, charsiew buns, shrimp dumplings, pan-fried radish and their dessert. Shulian doesn't like durian (OH THE BLASPHEMY) so I couldn't order it, but I really like their durian dessert. :D Go to Dim Joy, people!

pretzel_knot[info]pretzel_knot on June 22nd, 2009 01:24 pm (UTC)
maybe they were really busy and we just caught them on a bad day or sth? IDK. BUT YES, IT WAS REALLY BAD. we saw a table celebrating birthday too, and we were like, OMG I WLD NEVER WANT TO CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY HERE, IT WLD TOTALLY SPOIL OUR MOODS.

you all can try i guess, and let me know if the service was still very bad. (:

pretzel_knot[info]pretzel_knot on June 22nd, 2009 01:39 pm (UTC)

xy: gossip time[info]puchikonyo on June 22nd, 2009 01:40 pm (UTC)
yeah but as you've mentioned, its not as if you ate that many anyway. LOLLL too stuffed. hmmm.
pretzel_knot[info]pretzel_knot on June 22nd, 2009 01:49 pm (UTC)
oh yeah. 'cause its a steamboat, so there are other food. LOL.

gah that reminds me. one of waitresses was like," 叫这么多,吃的完吗?? 吃不完我们要charge你food wastage. " when we tried to order more fishballs/luncheon meat/xiao long baos later on. her tone pissed us off. idk, she cld have said it more nicely if she only wanted to remind us of the food wastage fee. but it just sounded really rude the way she said it 'cause she gave a huge sigh as if to say 'OH YOU KIDS BEING GREEDY'.
xy: so bright it burns[info]puchikonyo on June 22nd, 2009 01:51 pm (UTC)
blah oh yeah, it being buffet dinner and all.

I swear the restaurants that offer the buffet option and end up talking mostly to their customers like this is horrible. I know there's like really kiasu Singaporeans but its really quite mean. DD:
pretzel_knot[info]pretzel_knot on June 22nd, 2009 02:01 pm (UTC)
YEAH IT IS. i mean, how did she want us to respond to that? "yes we won't be able to finish but we just feel like making you even busier hence we are ordering"? LOL we're not that lame please. and they already put a sign on the table to inform about the food wastage fee. so...i didn't get what's her deal, maybe she just didn't want to walk the extra inches to the kitchen. /shrugs

LOL Your post is making me hungry. There's this dimsum restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Hotel called The Cherry Garden. The dimsum there is pricey, but very worth it. A la carte buffet if I remember correctly, two lunch time seatings. I'd go there more often for dimsum if not for the fact that it's a bomb to pay per head.
pretzel_knot: jaejoong[info]pretzel_knot on June 22nd, 2009 01:22 pm (UTC)
LOL. whoops. how pricey is your pricey? so its very good? i think nat and i wanted to go there the other time for lunch or sth, but it looked really expensive. D:
All 40000; 숙♥[info]samloves on June 22nd, 2009 01:27 pm (UTC)

You know, I've never really understood why the wait staff is so rude sometimes. I mean, they are working for your tips after all!

And I'm now craving dim sum (and those egg tarts *nomnomnom*!)...Thanks. XD
pretzel_knot: donghae[info]pretzel_knot on June 23rd, 2009 04:57 am (UTC)
LOL maybe because in Singapore they don't really expect you to tip unless its like a hotel or sth? since there is a compulsory service charge included in the bill. that's why sometimes i feel that service charge shldn't be compulsory, so the wait staff will actually feel more appreciated if they receive tips directly.

YOU'RE WELCOME. HAHAHHA.

Where is Dim Joy??? I have been looking for good egg tarts in Singapore!!! But so far I have been disapopointed!!! BAH

AND AND Why you all still go the steamboat buffet! I thought I told you and xj not nice already?!?! HAHAHAHA. Ya that day we went, there was no service also. And they were seriously quite annoying, it was like, you owe them a living for eating there.

I honestly doubt that I will willingly go back there to eat again. LOL.
pretzel_knot[info]pretzel_knot on June 23rd, 2009 01:38 pm (UTC)
its at Neil Road, near Outram Park train station!

LOL you did? but anyway we went before!! and that time, the one waitress who served us was very nice. but this time everyone there looks like we owe them money, man.

YEAH WE SHLD BOYCOTT THE PLACE. BAH.
